The Customer

Van Kooten Installatietechniek B.V. has been active in the installation sector for over a century, developing into a reliable partner for a wide range of projects. Their knowledge, experience, and problem-solving approach make them a valued collaborator in utility construction. For the newly constructed multi-tenant building 'De Velden' in Almelo, Van Kooten and STULZ joined forces to realise a future-proof climate solution.

At the start of the project, little was known about the building's future tenants. The challenge? Develop a flexible climate control system that could easily adapt to various layouts and user requirements. Rob Neutink, Account Manager at STULZ, explains:
“We were already involved at the drawing board stage. At that time, it wasn't yet clear who the tenants would be. That's why we opted for a flexible system, making it easy to adapt the layouts later on.”

Together, Van Kooten and STULZ developed a smart, energy-efficient installation offering maximum flexibility. The solution’s core consists of a STULZ ClimaPac Compact air handling unit combined with heat pumps from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, supplemented by an advanced VRF system from the same brand.

The choice for a 3-pipe VRF system enables simultaneous heating and cooling per room. Thanks to multi-zone adapters, each space can be individually controlled.
“Rooms can be individually heated and cooled. For example, sunlight might warm one side of the building, making heating unnecessary, while the other side might require additional warmth,” says Rob. “With this system, everyone can easily adjust the temperature to their needs. What's more, heat from one side of the building is reused on the other.”

Ralph Slagers, Project Manager at Van Kooten, highlights the practical benefits:
“You don’t want major renovations when an office space gets subdivided. On all four floors, air diffusers distribute conditioned air efficiently throughout the rooms.”

The flexible installation guarantees a healthy and comfortable indoor climate for all users, regardless of future layout changes. Thanks to the efficient control, not only is comfort ensured, but energy costs remain manageable. Additionally, the installation qualifies for the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA), making it more financially attractive to invest in sustainable technology.

“There are great subsidy schemes that make it more cost-effective to properly tackle climate control now,” Rob advises. “A good indoor climate always pays off—not just financially, but in terms of workplace satisfaction too.”
